Material Selection Of Inner And Outer Magnetic Steel Of Plastic-lined Magnetic Pump

Dec 16, 2020 Leave a message

Plastic lined magnetic pumps, also known as magnetic drive pumps, are widely used in chemical systems for the transportation of various liquids. Unlike traditional pumps, these pumps do not have any dynamic seals, resulting in zero leakage during liquid delivery. This makes them ideal for handling flammable, explosive, volatile, toxic, corrosive, and valuable liquids.

The structure of a magnetic drive pump is based on a centrifugal pump, with the drive mechanism utilizing magnetic transmission principles. The motor is connected to the outer magnetic steel through a coupling, while the impeller is connected to the inner magnet steel. To ensure complete separation between the inner and outer magnets, a fully sealed isolation sleeve is incorporated.

This innovative design allows the inner magnet to be immersed within the liquid medium. By utilizing the attractive force of the magnetic field between the magnets, the motor's shaft directly drives the impeller to rotate. This eliminates the need for traditional shaft seals, preventing any possibility of leakage.

In summary, plastic lined magnetic pumps offer a reliable and efficient solution for the transportation of challenging liquids in chemical systems. Their unique design, with static seals and magnetic transmission, guarantees utmost safety and protection against leakage.

The plastic-lined magnetic pump consists of various crucial structural components, including the pump body, impeller, inner magnet steel, outer magnet steel, isolating sleeve, pump inner shaft, and pump outer shaft. Additionally, the pump comprises of several other essential elements such as sliding bearings, rolling bearings, couplings, and much more. All these different parts together form the core of the plastic-lined magnetic pump, which is responsible for its reliable and efficient functioning. The proper arrangement and functioning of these components ensure the high-performance output of the pump, making it an ideal choice for different industrial applications.

The primary element in the magnetic coupling is the combination of inner magnetic steel, outer magnetic steel, and an isolation sleeve. It consists of the inner magnetic steel, which includes a guide ring and sheath, and the outer magnetic steel that also includes a guide ring. Together, these components form the magnetic coupling. The purpose of the isolation sleeve is to provide insulation and separation between the inner and outer magnetic steel. This arrangement ensures efficient magnetic transfer and functionality within the magnetic coupling system.

The efficiency and stability of the plastic-lined magnetic pump are greatly affected by the choice of material for the internal and external magnetic steel. It is crucial to carefully consider the material selection for optimal performance. Some commonly used materials for this purpose are listed below:

Rare earth cobalt is an advanced form of permanent magnet steel known for its exceptional properties. Various types of rare earth cobalt include samarium cobalt, aluminum nickel cobalt, praseodymium cobalt, mixed rare earth cobalt, and dilute cobalt copper. These materials exhibit a remarkable magnetic energy product ranging from 80 to 240kl/m, showcasing their high magnetic transmission efficiency. Additionally, they possess impressive resistance to demagnetization. With a coercivity HCT ranging from 360 to 1200kA/m, rare earth cobalt demonstrates its ability to maintain magnetization even under challenging conditions. Furthermore, these magnets can operate at elevated temperatures of up to 300cc, making them suitable for a wide range of applications.

NdFeB magnets are classified as rare earth permanent magnets and offer comparable features to that of samarium cobalt. However, these magnets possess a higher magnetic energy product compared to their samarium cobalt counterparts. In terms of limitations, NdFeB magnets can only function optimally in temperatures not exceeding 120 degrees Celsius, and they exhibit relatively poor magnetic stability.

In earlier times, plastic-lined magnetic pumps utilized ferrite as their primary material. However, the drawback with this material was that it had a very low magnetic energy product of only 10-30kj/m3 and could only operate at temperatures up to 85°C. Additionally, it was found that there was considerable magnetic transmission loss, which further reduced its utility. Consequently, ferrite is much less frequently used in modern plastic-lined magnetic pumps.

In metal isolation sleeves, there is a tendency for eddy current loss to occur. To reduce this type of loss and increase transmission efficiency, high resistance materials like Hastelloy C are usually employed. However, it should be noted that the eddy current loss accounts for approximately 5% to 25% of the total transmission efficiency. Therefore, it is important to consider proper materials and structures during the construction and design phase to achieve optimal performance.

Utilizing a non-metal isolation sleeve is a great way to enhance the effectiveness of transmission as it prevents any eddy current loss from occurring within the sleeve. Although, it's important to note that the sleeve's resistance to high temperatures is limited, typically only capable of withstanding between 100~120℃.

Although the plastic-lined magnetic pump exhibits performance characteristics comparable to those of a centrifugal pump, it unfortunately suffers from a lower level of efficiency.

Plastic-lined magnetic pumps have a strict requirement - they cannot have any iron or ferromagnetic debris or hard debris in the medium they convey. This is to ensure that the integrity of the pump's magnetic force is not compromised. Any such debris would interfere with the magnetic coupling between the impeller and the driving magnet, causing the pump to fail. Therefore, it is crucial to adhere to this requirement when using plastic-lined magnetic pumps.
